Turmeric Chews

turmeric soft chews

Prep Time:  25-30 minutes
Yield:  @ 45 soft chews
Suggested Serving Size:  1 a day and increase to 2 or more a day as feels best in your body

turmeric chew ingredients
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup honey (local, raw preferred)
  • 1/2 cup turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

In a medium size bowl mix all ingredients* until well combined,  it will naturally start to form into a ball, add more turmeric as needed.**

Place ball in the freezer for 5-20 minutes to stiffen (time in freezer depends on how liquid the honey you use is).

Remove from freezer, place the dough between two pieces of parchment paper.  With a rolling pin, roll out the dough to a thickness of  1/2 inch. Alternatively, place a piece of parchment paper in a square baking pan and use another piece to press the dough out into the pan.  If the dough becomes too soft while rolling or pressing it, place in the freezer for 3-5 minutes to stiffen it back up.  With a sharp knife, cut the dough into 3/4" pieces.

These little chews will keep in the freezer indefinitely.

*Consider adding a tablespoon of cinnamon or fresh grated ginger or a 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne.  It is recommended to add only one additional spice to each batch.

**My coconut oil and honey were both solid, so I used a fork to mash it together.

I've been adding about 1 tablespoon of quercetin, which is a bioflavonoid that assists turmeric in becoming more bio available to our bodies. While quercetin isn't required in this recipe since it has a healthy oil and black pepper, it is especially helpful for allergies, so I add it to my current batches.  I live in the land of Juniper pollen which takes quite a toll on my body - part of my personal health work with Turmeric is enhancing it with additional nutrients that my body is asking for, in order to further assist in reducing inflammation caused by my seasonal allergies.  The quetcetin supplement I used also has bromelian (pineapple enzyme) and vitamin c.
